  • Series of Suppression — concept, direction, cinematography and edit: Sheeyla Gerard.
Series of Suppression is an experimental short movie that tries to capture the relationship between the human body and its (emotional) nature. Shot between the rough mountain landscapes of Ireland, the film tries to answer the question of what would happen if we released all of our deepest oppressions. Would they destroy, or enlighten us?

  • Uncle Skittles — direction: Sheeyla Gerard — Producer: Conijn Film.

The much-loved G. Martel secretly stole $5.4 million from his loved ones and relatives (among many others). His niece Sheeyla delves into her family’s coping process and investigates whether it is possible to restore the family bond. Along the way, she gets caught in a maze of intergenerational family trauma that might give unsuspected answers to his crime.
(Current status: due to family matters the project has been put on hold.)

  • Artist In School — direction: Sheeyla Gerard — Producers: Het Laagland and Via Zuid.
What would happen if two artists started working at a high school on a structural basis? Could that increase students' mental well-being? In 2022, Anoek Oostermeijer and Mees Walter initiated the Artist in School project at the Graaf Huyn high school in Geleen-Zuid to investigate this. When I heard about their astonishing results, I insisted on making a Ted Talk-like presentation with them to inspire other schools about the Artist in School movement.
